The following websites contain information on scholarships and funding for short-term/semester/year-long study abroad programs:

Gilman Scholarship – Scholarship for U.S. citizens who are eligible to receive federal Pell Grants. Preference categories include study outside Western Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, high financial need, diverse ethnic backgrounds, disabilities, nontraditional age, nontraditional academic interests. For more information on this scholarship, please reach out to abroad@hollins.edu, and you will be contacted by a representative.

Gilman Critical Need Language Scholarship – Gilman Scholarship applicants who are studying any of the following critical need languages while abroad can apply for a supplemental award: Arabic, Azerbaijani, Bahasa Indonesian, Bangla, Mandarin, Hebrew, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, Persian, Portuguese, Punjabi, Russian, Swahili, Turkish, Urdu. Applicants must be eligible to receive federal Pell Grants. Preference categories include study outside Western Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, high financial need, diverse ethnic backgrounds, disabilities, nontraditional age, nontraditional academic interests. Gilman-McCain Scholarship
Gilman Scholarship applicants who are child or spousal dependents of active or activated United States military personnel during the time of application can apply for a supplemental award through the Gilman-McCain Scholarship. Applicants must be recipients of any type of Title IV federal financial aid during the time of application or provide proof that they will be receiving Title IV federal financial aid during their study abroad program or internship. David L. Boren Scholarships for Undergraduates
Boren Scholarships, an initiative of the National Security Education Program, provide unique funding opportunities for U.S. undergraduate students to study less commonly taught languages in world regions that are critical to U.S. security interests and underrepresented in study abroad, including Africa, Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East. The countries of Western Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand are excluded. Boren Scholars represent a vital pool of highly motivated individuals who wish to work in the federal national security arena. In exchange for funding, Boren Scholars commit to working in the federal government for at least one year after graduation.

Fund for Education Abroad
The mission of the Fund for Education Abroad (FEA) is to provide scholarships and ongoing support to students who are underrepresented among the U.S. study abroad population. FEA makes life-changing, international experiences accessible to all by supporting minority, community college, and first-generation college students before, during, and after they participate in education abroad programs. Applicants from groups underrepresented in study abroad are given preference, in an effort to make the demographics of US undergraduates studying abroad reflect the rich diversity of the US population. Students who create an application with FEA will be considered for all of the scholarships they meet the criteria for, along with the FEA General Scholarships.

Diversity Abroad
The Overseas Ambassador Program is an initiative created for current students or recent graduates who are planning to study, intern, volunteer or teach abroad. The Overseas Ambassadors will serve as overseas correspondents, sharing their experiences to motivate other members of the DiversityAbroad.com community to go abroad. By writing insightful articles, sharing inspiring videos and pictures about your new surroundings, cross-cultural observations and personal growth, your words will inspire other diverse students to go abroad and challenge them to rethink how study abroad experiences can be for everyone.

Barry Goldwater Scholarship
The Goldwater Scholarship Program, one of the oldest and most prestigious national scholarships in the natural sciences, engineering, and mathematics in the United States, seeks to identify, encourage, and financially support college sophomores and juniors who show exceptional promise of becoming this Nation’s next generation of research leaders in these fields.

Scott's Cheap Flights Scholarship
The Scott’s Cheap Flights Study Abroad Scholarship is open to both undergraduate and graduate students who are enrolled at an accredited higher education program in the United States (and its territories and possessions) and will be studying abroad.

Tortuga Study Abroad Scholarship
The Tortuga Study Abroad Scholarship is awarded biannually to passionate students who want to explore the world. The winner of the Tortuga Study Abroad Scholarship will receive: $1,000 scholarship for studying abroad and 1 Tortuga travel backpack. The scholarship may be used for tuition, room and board, books, or travel. Funds will be sent directly to the winner's study abroad program or university. In cases where this is not possible, alternative arrangements will be made.

Vira I. Heinz (VIH) Program for Women in Global Leadership (Arcadia students)
The Vira I. Heinz (VIH) Program for Women in Global Leadership prepares scholars for tomorrow's global challenges by offering a unique opportunity for international experiences, leadership development, and community service. Universities and colleges across Pennsylvania participate in the VIH Program. Three first-time woman travelers from each institution are admitted into the program and receive a scholarship of at least $5,000 to put toward the cost of international experience of their choosing. The VIH Program has three principal components: the international experience, the Community Engagement Experience, and two weekend-long, intensive leadership development retreats. Applicable for students participating in Arcadia University abroad programs.

AASAP/UK Lord Acton Memorial Scholarship (CAPA students)
This scholarship provides a deserving study abroad student with financial support to pursue academic study in the United Kingdom. This merit-based scholarship is awarded to the applicant who demonstrates an understanding and appreciation of the value of an international educational experience and who agrees to share with AASAP/UK members the ways in which the scholarship has helped to fulfill their academic and personal ambitions. The award will be £1,000 for a semester or year abroad. Applicable for students studying with CAPA: The Global Education Network.

The Garden Club of America (for ES/ESC and BIO students)
The Garden Club of America offers 28 merit-based scholarships and fellowships in 12 areas related to conservation, ecology, horticulture, and pollinator research.

German Academic Exchange Service Scholarships
The Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD) / German Academic Exchange Service supports the internationalization of German universities and promotes German studies and the German language abroad. This organization offers scholarships for students wishing to study, complete research, or intern in Germany. DAAD scholarships are aimed primarily at graduates, doctoral students and postdocs and are awarded for study and research visits to universities and non-university research institutions in Germany.

Bridging Scholarships for Study in Japan
The Bridging Project offers scholarships to American undergraduate students participating in study-abroad programs in Japan. This program awards about 100 scholarships each year to assist students with the travel and living expenses they will incur while studying abroad in Japan for a semester or an academic year. Applications are accepted twice a year for Bridging Scholarships.

The Watanabe Study Abroad Scholarship (Japan)
This scholarship provides financial assistance to undergraduates/graduate students for a semester or year-long Japanese study abroad program. This scholarship is unique in that it offers up to the full cost of attendance for a semester or year of study abroad. The scholarship program grants awards to recipients in amounts determined by individual financial need and other qualifications.

Freeman-ASIA scholarship
The Freeman-ASIA scholarship awards are designed for U.S. undergraduate students with demonstrated financial need to study in East or Southeast Asia for academic credit. Must have applied or have been accepted to a study abroad based program in: Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Laos, Macao, Malaysia, Mongolia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam.

The Hungarian Diaspora Scholarship Program
This program offers scholarships to students for studying in Hungary for a semester or for a year. With the support of the scholarship you can spend a semester or a full year at the 650-year old University of Pécs, the oldest and one of the most prestigious universities in Hungary. The University of Pécs offers a large number of study areas for semester and year-long studies for the scholarship holders, including Business and Economics, Humanities and Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, Education, Music and Visual Arts, Engineering, Health Sciences.

The William Jefferson Clinton Scholarship
The William Jefferson Clinton Scholarship at The American University in Dubai seeks to further the goals of the Clinton Foundation to strengthen the capacity of people in the United States and throughout the world to meet the challenges of global interdependence. In partnership with The American University in Dubai, the program provides American students based in the US the opportunity to expand their educational and cultural horizons by studying in the Arab world. The scholarship is open only to students who are U.S. Citizens. In order to be awarded the Clinton Scholarship, scholarship recipients must apply and be admitted to AUD as a visiting student.

Summer Arabic Language and Media
The Summer Arabic Language and Media (SALAM) program in Oman invites applications for its fully funded intensive Arabic language scholarship program for each summer. Selected applicants will participate in Modern Standard Arabic and Media Arabic courses, as well as a language-partner program, organized excursions within Oman, and weekly lectures. All expenses, including room and board, tuition, international travel, excursions and program activities are covered by the Sultan Qaboos Cultural Center, which sponsors the SALAM program. Applications are invited from interested US students enrolled in a degree-seeking program, who will have completed four semesters of university-level Arabic prior to the start of the SALAM program.

The Asia Institute Scholarships
The Asia Institute believes that experiential learning opportunities in Asia can be life changing. To increase the number of students studying abroad in Asia each year, The Asia Institute partners with various organizations who aim to support participation in global learning experiences.
