Program Description:

January Term in Havana, Cuba


Each January, Hollins students are offered the option of an intensive 3 1/2-week Spanish language experience at The Center for Cross-Cultural Study in Havana. This 3 1/2 week term is designed to be taken on its own or as preparation for the Spring Semester Program.

If you can’t get away for a full semester, short-term programs are the best option. Courses offered at all levels of Spanish, in most disciplines: general Spanish language, Spanish for the professions, literature and history, business and economics, education and health sciences, social sciences, and more.

CC-CS Winter programs are all-inclusive programs and include sponsored excursions to places such as Old Havana, the Museum of the Revolution, Farmers' Markets, grassroots community centers, jazz, salsa and hip-hop concerts, Cienfuegos province and the colonial city of Trinidad.

Academics

Classes meet Monday through Friday for 4 hours per day
Average class size: 10-12
4 semester credits
All courses are taught in Spanish by highly qualified Spanish university professors with extensive experience in teaching American students.
 

Eligibility: 3.0 in Spanish Language Coursework. Completion of elementary Spanish.  Applicants must be at least 18 years old before program begins.


Application Process

Students applying to this program must also complete an application with Spanish Studies Abroad. Their application is due on October 15, 2016. Student may wish to start that application at the same time as their application to be a candidate from Hollins - but must wait to submit their application until they are approved by Hollins. 

Housing and Meals

Students are housed with a Spanish host family and all meals are provided.Eligibility
Students accepted to the program must be in good academic and disciplinary standing and have Hollins' approval to participate.

Cost

The cost for the program is approximately $4.200 and includes fees for tuition and housing, all meals and an International Student Identity Card. It does not include airfare, or any personal travel or expenses. Hollins students are billed for this program with their spring term bill, which is issued on December 1 and due on January 1.
