Student Recommendations

How to Provide Student Recommendations Using the Online System
 

*Recommendations should be submitted within a few days of the program's application deadline. In order to quickly process and evaluate student applications, we must be able to consider faculty recommendations along with the student's other materials.

All program applications for the academic year (Fall, J-Term, and Spring programs) are due by March 1st.

Students applying for study abroad through Hollins University generally need two faculty recommendations to complete the application process. We encourage students to contact you directly about your providing a recommendation before they input your contact information. Unfortunately, not all students will comply, and you may be “blindsided” by an emailed request for recommendation.


Through our online system, faculty recommenders will receive an email from abroad@hollins.edu titled "Recommendation Request from < Your Name > for Office of International Programs". Please check your SPAM folder in case the email is misdirected.

There are two options for completing study abroad recommendations:
 

  • Option 1: If you rarely write study abroad recommendations, you may access the recommendation by clicking the 'Complete Recommendation' link in the email. This will take you to the recommendation form directly.
  • Option 2: If you routinely write several recommendations for students on study abroad, you may create a profile and log-in as a user to the system thus creating your own account as a Recommender. From your International Programs homepage you will be able to see all your pending recommendations, view recommendations that you've already written and communicate easily with our office.
    • To create your own account, access the study abroad website page login here. Once there, select 'Log in with Portal Account'. Your username is your Hollins email account. If you have forgotten your password, select the 'Forgot Password' button on the bottom of the screen.


Recommendations are submitted online directly into the student’s application within the study abroad website. Paperwork is completely removed from the process of recommendations. The online process provides immediate tracking of submitted or missing recommendations.
